New York: William Morrow and Company (Printed and Bound in Great Britain), 1962. [Morality Essays] FIRST US EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, bibliographer's copy. Octavo (22 x 15cm), pp.xvi; 87. Publisher's red cloth with gilt titles to spine. With the dust-jacket, priced $3.50s. UK sheets in the US (Morrow) binding, with Morrow imprint on jacket. Together with the SECOND ISSUE, corrected, bound in a different red cloth lettered in black to the spine, with dust-jacket, priced $3.50s. This issue features a section of text to the copyright page redacted/censored by the publisher. Contents clean and fresh, no ink inscriptions, corrected issue lacks free endpaper, both jackets are near fine. An attractive pair. While still a member of the Editorial Board at the Sunday Times, Fleming had the brilliant idea of asking some of the greatest writers of the time (many of whom were his close friends) to comment on their favourite deadly sin - the serial appeared in the newspaper with contributions from Patrick Leigh Fermor, Cyril Connolly, Edith Sitwell, Evelyn Waugh, W.H. Auden, Christopher Sykes and Angus Wilson. The book-form edition was mostly exported to America where the articles had not previously been seen, and to which Fleming's 'Special Foreword' was added. From the collection of Ian Fleming bibliographer Jon Gilbert (pencil ownership within). Item #73984
