Octavo (20 x 14cm), pp.222 [1] Elegantly hand-bound in blue half calf, with raised bands, gilt titles to spine, and matching cloth over boards. With the publisher's original blue cloth spine bound in at rear. Some light spotting in places, edges gently toned, exterior as new. A very good copy in an attractive recent leather binding. A Simon Templar case set in Washington DC. The story reveals some the wartime exploits of The Saint, as a covert operative disrupting the activities of enemy agents. According to Paul Simpson (The Rough Guide to James Bond, p.47), 'The Saint' is a literary ancestor of 007, the debonair Simon Templar being a gentleman adventurer whose parallels with Bond are obvious.
