Live and Let Die [two variant copies of the same impression].

London: Pan Books, 1963. [James Bond spy novel] UK Paperback edition, ninth printing, 'Great Pan' covers and 'X' series covers (January 1963). Slim octavos (18 x 11cm), pp.247; [1], blank. Publisher's illustrated softcovers by Peff, 'X' series with printed price 3/6, 'Great Pan' priced 2/6. 'Yellow band' card wrappers designated GP83 or X233. Contents clean, no inscriptions, toning to cheap paper text block as expected, ink name and book shop stamp to GP83, which is gently sunned to spine; near fine. Other volume is fine. This was a transitional printing of the second Bond novel, where the price changed from 2/6 to 3/6. X233 covers were intended for the tenth printing onwards, so this copy is an anomaly/misbound with these covers. This uncommon pair is from the collection of Fleming bibliographer Jon Gilbert (pencil ownership within). Item #72801

Gilbert, Jon: Ian Fleming The Bibliography A2a (30).
