'Thunderball' [A portfolio of reproduction prints].

Privately printed, ca.1997. [Film art] Reproduction illustrations of the movie artwork by Frank McCarthy and Robert McGinnis. One of just five sets of seven digital colour prints being landscape and portrait variations of the underwater battle scene in blue mat, light blue mat and green mat. Each print has been archivally mounted and numbered in pencil, the complete set being housed in a custom-made fleece-lined half blue morocco clamshell portfolio case with gilt titles to spine. The image size and mount dimensions vary, largest measuring approx. 21 x 15 inches. Fine condition throughout. Provenence: A series of reproduction artwork, printed by James Bond historian John Griswold (1950-2016) with permission of the artists. These were subsequently sold via Winter Auctions on 4th October 2010 to the James Bond specialists Adrian Harrington Ltd, where they have since been collected, mounted and professionally presented in the current format. An-out-of series set including Griswold's proofs and some single images have been retained. The iconic underwater battle illustration appears as the middle scene (of three) used for the US one-sheet and US half-sheet film posters. It later appears on merchadising material such as the American soundtrack LP cover and was chosen as the image for the popular 'Thunderball' puzzle. Item #72310
