From Russia, With Love. With an Introduction by Christopher Andrew.
London: Penguin Decades, [1957] 2010. [Spy thriller] Special Edition, with cover design by Peter Blake. FIRST EDITION thus, with strike-line '1'. Octavo (20 x 13cm), pp.x; 230. Publisher's illustrated card covers, plain scarlet inners, series details printed on rear. A fine, as-new copy. Surprisingly scarce. Released as part of the Penguin Decades series, featuring novels that helped shape modern Britain. "When they were published, some were bestsellers, some were considered scandalous, and others were simply misunderstood..." [from Penguin's blurb]. 'From Russia, With Love' was selected among five novels to represent the 'fifties, each featuring striking modernist pop art jacket designs from British icon Peter Blake, who co-created The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper sleeve, and illustrated record covers by The Who, Paul Weller and Oasis. Blake's The First Real Target (1961), based on a standard archery board, popularised the roundel motif and was later adopted as the insignia of the mod movement (simplified with the UJ primary colours/RAF livery).
