Publisher's light blue cloth, top edge gilt, gilt design of Basil Seal, blue endpapers, edges untrimmed. Small owner's signature to foot of limitation page else a very fine copy. Discreet name to endpaper, cloth sunned to extremities and rear cover. Very good. With a printed dedication to Mrs. Ann Fleming, by way of a long letter from the author. The first (and as far as we can tell the only) book to be dedicated to Ann Fleming. Waugh, Evelyn (1903-66). Writer, man of letters, major literary figure. Former Royal Marine Commando who fought at the Battle of Crete, 1941, and as an SAS officer serving with Fitzroy MacLean in Yugoslavia, 1944. A primary correspondent of Ann Fleming (a cousin of Waugh's wife Laura). Holidayed with the Flemings regularly at Goldeneye. Like Ian, Waugh was a member of London club Whites. Name-checked by Fleming whilst discussing an air-drop of wartime propaganda over North Africa in his article Airline Detective. Wrote a chapter of Fleming's Seven Deadly Sins. Item #69798
