The novel features secret agent Quiller in South-East Asia and his attempts to prevent an assassination. Quiller was clearly influenced by the James Bond film franchise and was part of the 1960s 'Spy Boom' in television and cinema. The BAFTA-nominated 1966 Rank Film 'The Quiller Memorandum' was written by Harold Pinter and featured a score by John Barry. A BBC Television series followed in 1975.
