The Man With the Golden Gun.
London: Jonathan Cape, 1965. [Thriller] FIRST ISSUE, second state, binding 'A'. Octavo (19 x 13cm), pp.221. Publisher's dark grey cloth-effect paper over boards with gilt lettering to the spine (twice as scarce as bronze lettering), plain covers (usual second state without gun motif), patterned green endpapers. In the original pictorial dust-jacket illustrated by Richard Chopping. Edges gently toned, contents clean, no inscriptions, jacket with original price crossed through and repriced in ink, a little brownig to flaps, some marks to edge of rear flap. Very good indeed. This copy was exported and sold in Bombay, India (Thacker & Co book shop stamp to rear endpaper). Shows well. UK Cape editions of Fleming's best-selling James Bond series were imported by British overseas territories across the globe [Gilbert], as demonstrated by the present copy. Thacker Spink & Co. were a famous firm of publishers, printers and booksellers founded in 1819 by William Thacker, an East India Company surgeon, joined by his nephew William Spink in 1839. They published Thacker's Indian Directory from 1864-1960, the premier commercial almanac of the subcontinent. Item #67509
