London: Pan Books, 1959-1961. [Spy thrillers] COMPLETE AS ISSUED. Seven volumes [all that were issued in this series], octavos (16 x 10 x 9cm). A vintage set of the 'Great Pan' paperbacks with the multi-coloured 'banded' covers and inset head-and-shoulders portrait of James Bond. Each volume correctly priced at 2/6 (all UK copies- unpriced export issues were also produced). Early printings with Goldfinger being a first paperback edition. Discreet owner name to inside cover of first title else no other ink inscriptions. Used copies with some expected toning and general wear, joints rubbed, spines aged and rolled. Very good overall. Increasingly difficult to assemble. These are unofficially referred to as the 'director' series, because the model for James Bond appearing on the banner was apparently Pan Books' managing director Ralph Vernon-Hunt. Item #65318
