Deighton's acclaimed account of Germany's first major defeat of the Second World War. The 1969 Bafta-nominated film 'The Battle of Britain' was produced by Harry Saltzman, who had adapted the 'Harry Palmer' series of films from Deighton's spy novels. Deighton had contributed to Saltzman's James Bond screenplays. 'The Battle of Britain' utilised many of the James Bond and Harry Palmer film crews, including Guy Hamilton (director), Freddie Young (cinematography), Maurice Binder (main titles), Rick Lester & Nosher Powell (stunts) and Derek Coyte (publicity). The film also starred actors from Bond franchise including Robert Shaw, Curt Jurgens and Nikki Van Der Zyl.
