Publisher's blue cloth lettered in gilt to spine, illustrated dust-jacket with printed price of 15s to front flap. No inscriptions, some gentle toning to edges of text block, few light spots to fly, jacket with very light rubbing to crown. A crisp, fresh copy in fine condition. An undercover mission beyond the Iron Curtain to recover a defected scientist goes disastrously wrong; a classic early Cold War thriller from the acclaimed master of action and suspense. Filmed in 1961 under its U.S. title 'The Secret Ways', starring Richard Widmark. In the 50s and 60s, Maclean was one of the chief rivals of Ian Fleming, both authors sharing a Scottish heritage and a Royal Navy background. Item #64880
