The Unseen Killer. A Study of Suicide, It's History, Causes and Cures
London: Frederick Muller, 1973. [Documentary] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (21 x 14cm), pp.219; [1], blank. Publisher's burgundy cloth lettered in gilt, illustrated dust-wrapper priced at 21s. From the comprehensive Ian Fleming Bibliographical Archive assembled by Jon Gilbert, with his pencilled notes to flyleaf. His encyclopaedic guide to the works of Ian Fleming (2012) won the 16th Breslauer Prize for bibliography. Edges a little dusty, jacket with a few nicks and tears, some rubbing. Very good. Author Donald McCormick was a cloak-and-dagger fanatic who worked alongside James Bond creator Ian Fleming both in wartime Intelligence work and as Fleming's assistant at the Foreign Desk of The Sunday Times. McCormick wrote several spy-related books and a full-length biography of Fleming. This book was published the same year as Fleming's You Only Live Twice, which features suicide as a central theme. Fleming undoubtedly consulted McCormick on the topic. Item #64823
Gilbert, p.648.
