The Imitation Game: Three Plays for Television by Ian McEwan. [Jack Flea's Birthday Celebration, and Solid Geometry].
London: Jonathan Cape, 1981. [Television Drama] FIRST EDITION, first impression. Octavo (21 x 14cm), pp.175 [1]. Publisher's oatmeal cloth with black titles to spine. With the dust-jacket designed by Craig Dodd, priced at £5.95. A minor bump and a light mark to jacket front cover. Code-breaking drama, not to be confused with the 2014 film, which was based on Andrew Hodge's 1983 biography of Alan Turing. This television play actually has very little to do with Turing, and much more to do with the role of female staff at Bletchley Park, and their total exclusion from the top-secret 'Ultra' ring. Also containing two other experimental plays written by McEwan in the late 1970's, 'Solid Geometry' being banned by the BBC shortly before production began, creating an inevitable sensation at the time.
